The Porsche 911 GT3 with manual transmission is now officially the fastest production car of its kind on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The lap was driven by Porsche brand ambassador Jörg Bergmeister, who achieved a time of 6: 56,294 minutes on the 20,832 km long course.
Porsche 911 GT3 (992)
This meant that the GT3 with six-speed gearbox 9,5 seconds faster than a more powerful competitor. But the vehicle not only sets standards compared to the competition – the new Manual Gearbox improved.
A whopping 3,633 seconds is the advantage over the 911 GT3 of the 992.1 generation – despite the lack of automated gearshifts and electronically controlled limited-slip differential.
Perfect conditions, precise technology
The best time was achieved at 12 °C air and 27 °C asphalt temperature. A 911 GT3 with 510 hp (375 kW), equipped with the Weissach package. The tires used were road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 R in the dimensions 255/35 R20 front and 315/30 R21 rear – absolutely close to series production.
The aim was to beat the lap time of a competitor who was driving on the shortened version of the Nordschleife (20,6 km) 7: 01,300 minutes drove – extrapolated about 7: 05,800 minutes to the full round. Porsche easily beat this time.
Manual transmission instead of double clutch – and still faster
A large part of the progress is due to chassis changes. The new GT3 benefits from know-how from the GT3 RS – for example, in tuning for bumps or curbs. 8% shorter Translation provides better acceleration with unchanged performance. The result is a significantly more dynamic driving behavior, which according to Bergmeister is not only faster, but also "more fun" be.
"In almost every corner I was faster than with the predecessor, despite the classic circuit", says Bergmeister. The challenge of unlocking the full potential without automated systems seems to have been more of an advantage than a disadvantage for the experienced driver.
